What You’ll Do

Systems Engineer at REEF help build out, maintain, and troubleshoot our rapidly expanding infrastructure. 

We are part of a talented team of engineers that demonstrate superb technical competency, delivering mission critical infrastructure and ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance, and security.

We need a Systems Engineer with a background in IT, computer systems engineering, or systems engineering and analysis. The Systems Engineer will ensure that all the pieces of an engineering system work together, from managing business and management aspects to making sure each part is engineered correctly.  The Systems Engineer will have excellent communication, personal and governance skills, allowing them to resolve problems and manage work from the beginning until completion with exceptional efficiency.

What Your Day to Day Looks Like

REEF Technology is looking for a Systems Engineer to lead the team responsible for second and third level support of various network environments and their connected systems. These technologies are deployed throughout REEF’s many complex environments spanning across North America & Europe. This role includes assisting in developing enterprise solutions as well as supporting, configuring, maintaining, and optimisation network infrastructure and systems. The candidate will possess in depth knowledge of server & networking technologies (with certifications) and have both customer service & project delivery focus. As a member of the DevOps team, the engineer will also be expected to gain SME knowledge as it pertains to these complex business environments. To succeed in this, the candidate must also have extensive experience with, IT Operational support (Workstations, Servers, Network), cloud-based management tools, in-depth knowledge of remote access tools and a knowledge of ITSM tools.

The candidate must be highly organised and have excellent time management skills, this includes an ability to clearly plan, prioritise & execute within an agreed upon timeframe. They must also be a problem solver with good communication skills. The candidate will have a results-oriented focus and will be accountable for delivering. They will meet regularly with management. This position reports to the Director, DevOps

• Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure
• Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools
• Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
• Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes
• Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies
• Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
• Participate in the design of information and operational support systems
• Provide 2nd and 3rd level support
• Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution

What We Want from You:

• You have 3+ years of experience working as a Systems Engineers, leading complex cross-functional projects in emergent technology companies
• You thrive in a fast-paced environment where new ideas can quickly change the product landscape
• You can navigate ambiguity and the ever-shifting priority of startup culture
• You are successful at implementing and influencing adherence to agreed-upon standards and processes but know when and where to allow flexibility
• Working knowledge of Citrix, VMWare, Azure and O365 environment
• Experience supporting Active Directory and legacy Windows server OS (2003 and 2008)
• Strong understanding of networking and experience supporting Palo Alto firewalls
• Experience with Veaam backup, FTP and cloud storage setup
• Experience with PowerShell script
• Strong knowledge of best practices in IT operations
• Experience in documenting problems and resolutions
• Advanced support and troubleshooting skills
• Strong communication, prioritisation, organisational skills and teamwork
• Citrix and Azure certification is a plus
• Previous enterprise and startup experience is a plus
• Root cause analysis is a plus
