Position Summary 

The Director of Financial Operations – Shared Services is responsible for the overall financial reporting, accounting cycle and administration for the Shared Services departments including all associated corporate accounting requirements. The director is also responsible for ensuring that all reporting deadlines, both internal and external are accomplished in compliance with REEF policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Preparation of monthly Financial Statements for Shared Services departments.
  • Responsible for monthly financial, metric and variance analysis reports for Shared Services and wholly owned collections subsidiary
  • Preparation of the Annual Operating Plan and Quarterly Forecasting for Shared Services departments and collections subsidiary
  • Responsible for overall supervision and direction of staff within the Financial Operations department. Set and monitor goals for subordinates

  • Staffing requirements
  • Recruiting and training
  • Vacation administration

Supervise Accountants

  • Ensure accounting adherence to GAAP and company accounting policy and procedures by staff and all statements and reports issued
  • Completion of monthly accounting close and related reporting, in a timely manner according to established deadlines
  • Responsible for the establishment and review of internal controls for all Shared Services departments
  • Review and/or preparation of monthly Balance Sheet packages for accuracy and integrity with effective staff training and follow up.

Preparation of Corporate Monthly Accounting Reconciliations and Reporting

  • Monthly accruals, audit, recurring entries, and subsequent analysis of accounts.
  • Ensure accurate coding of departmental expenses and work with Shared Services, Operations and Corporate Finance leads as necessary
  • Monitor and clear suspense accounts
  • Compiling Corporate Month-end BS package for review by Shared Services and Real Estate leadership

Management of assigned Shared Services vendor relationships:

  • Print and mail vendors for MPS and collection invoices
  • Lockbox payment processing services for Canada and the US
  • Internet payment portal hosting services

Ensure Company Policies, Procedures and Controls are followed by the various Financial Operations personnel

  • Develop as needed processes and procedures to ensure adherence to best practices
  • Act as resource for proper accounting treatment of operation/branch entries
  • Approve Security Access Service Now forms at appropriate levels for Financial Operations staff
  • Oversee the implementation of the accounting processes and procedures as defined by the Vice President of Shared Services
      Ad hoc projects as assigned, including enhancement projects
  • Coordinate & assist with various Branch & Lot Audit Requirements and annual external auditors review
  • Ensure accurate and timely use on all REEF sub-systems
  • Other duties as required.

What We Want From You

  • G12 / Equivalent
  • Diploma (2 yr)
  • Bachelors Degree (3-4 yr)
  • Post Graduate Degree
  • Other Required Certifications
    • Area of study Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in business or related field
      CPA designation
  • 6+ years - Full cycle accounting
  • 3+ years - Management and supervisory experience, Trust Accounting experience an asset
  • Ability to analyze financial data, identifying trends, arrive at conclusions and make recommendations
  • Strong financial, analytical, customer service and coaching skills
  • Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong leadership presence, able to maintain positive and optimistic attitude
  • Advanced knowledge Excel and all MS office
